Completed in 2008, the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center is home to many of our core services, including the Basque Library, @One, and Special Collections.
The Knowledge Center also includes an array of general study and collaboration spaces designed to help you tackle your next group or solo project.
The First Floor includes the Nevada Writer's Hall of Fame near the west entrance, which leads to the Reception and Art Gallery outside of the Wells Fargo Auditorium. There are gendered restrooms and also a gender-neutral/family restroom outside of the Reception and Art Gallery. North through the foyer are vending machines, lockers, lactation/quiet room, and Studio Classrooms 104 and 107.
The @One studio with computers for University users is through the foyer to the east. There is the @One Help Desk and the @Reality lab right to the south, and the Dynamic Media Lab, recording and editing rooms, a video conference room, emergency stairs, and a gendered restroom to the north.
The First Floor of the Knowledge Center includes an outside entrance facing west that leads to the Outdoor Sculpture Garden and the Whalen Parking Garage. Stairs are also located on the west side of the floor which will lead to the Second Floor, and on the northwest corner of the floor, which will also lead to the Second Floor or the Basque Library. Public elevators are located on the northeast corner of the floor, and on the southeast corner.
The Second Floor includes the Rotunda near the west entrance, an information desk, and a Main Lobby with stairs to the First Floor. Bytes Cafe is near the north entrance of the Main Lobby, and the Knowledge Nook (room 221), is near the south entrance. East through the main lobby is the Atrium, with room 222, computing help and popular reading on the south side of the floor, and the reference collection and group study rooms on the north side.
The Circulation Desk is on the east side of the floor. North past Access Services are gendered restrooms, the Microform Collection, access to the Mathewson Automated Retrieval System or MARS (for staff only), a print/copy alcove, and emergency stairs. South past the Circulation Desk are gendered restrooms, a print/scanner alcove and emergency stairs. Down the hall to the east is the Research and Instructional Services department (room 214).
The Second Floor of the Knowledge Center includes an outside main entrance facing west that leads to the Whalen Parking Garage, a north entrance that leads to the Joe Crowley Student Union, and a south entrance that has stairs to the First Floor. There is an elevator and a set of stairs in the northwest corner that leads to the First Floor or the Basque Library, a set of stairs on either side of the main entrance that lead to the First Floor, and a bank of elevators in the southeast corner that lead to the upper floors of the Knowledge Center.
The Third Floor includes the General Collection, call numbers A-DE to the south, with a study nook, print alcove, and emergency alert button. A Tower Quiet Study area is on the southeast corner of the floor, near another print/copy station and emergency alert button. To the north is a large study area with a print alcove and two emergency alert buttons. On the east side of the floor, directly east of the stairs, is the Special Collections and University Archives Exhibit and Reading Room. There is access to the Mathewson Automated Retrieval System or MARS (for staff only). Down the hall to the north are gendered restrooms and emergency stairs. To the south are group study rooms, gender neutral restrooms, Administrative Offices for the Vice President for Information Technology, and emergency stairs.
The Third Floor - Basque Library and Center for Basque Studies - includes a conference room (room 305) directly to the east past the entrance. A hallway past the conference room leads to the Basque Library and Center for Basque Studies to the northeast, with gendered restrooms in the southeast corner of the Center for Basque Studies.
The Third Floor of the Knowledge Center Main Library includes stairs that lead up from the Second Floor Atrium on the east end of the floor, near the Special Collections and University Archives department. There is a space in the center of the floor that is open to the Atrium below. Elevators leading to the upper and lower floors of the library are near the southeast end of the floor.
The Basque Library and the Center for Basque Studies are on the third floor north of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. To access the library from the second floor, follow the main lobby north toward Bytes Café. From there, stairs or an elevator can be taken up to the third floor of the building. Alternatively, use the third-floor north entrance to enter the building.
The Fourth Floor includes the General Collection, call numbers DF- to the south, with a study nook, print/scanner alcove, and emergency alert button and another print station with an emergency alert button southwest.
To the west facing the Brian Whalen Parking Garage are the Tower Quiet Study area on the southwest corner, the Alan Bible Conference (room 402), the Keyser Conference (room 404), and the Rotunda Quiet Study on the northwest corner. On the north side of the floor is the General Collection, call numbers GV-GK, two print alcoves with emergency alert buttons, and two sets of emergency stairs.
On the east side of the floor after exiting the main stairs directly to the east is the General Collection, call numbers JK-MT. To the north of the collection is a gendered restroom, and directly to the east is the Technical Services Department (room 416 and 417), Office of Digital Learning and Instructional Design Suite (room 411 and 412) and the Instructional Design Lab (room 414).
To the south of the collection are group study rooms and gendered restrooms. Down the hall from the group study rooms to the east are the gender neutral restrooms, the Leonard Lounge (room 422), and the Faculty and Graduate Studies area (room 421).
The Fourth Floor of the Knowledge Center Main Library includes stairs that lead up from the Second Floor Atrium on the east end of the floor, near the JK-MT General Collection. There is a space in the center of the floor that is open to the Atrium below. Elevators leading to the upper and lower floors of the library are near the southeast end of the floor.
The Fifth floor includes the General Collection, call numbers N- ND to the south, with the Government Collection, print alcove, and emergency alert button and another print station with an emergency alert button southwest.
To the west facing the Brian Whalen Parking Garage are the graduate quiet study on the southwest corner, and the General Collection, call numbers ND- PR. On the north side of the floor is the General Collection, call numbers PR-PT, two print alcoves with emergency alert buttons, and two sets of emergency stairs.
On the east side of the floor after exiting the main stairs directly to the east is the General Collection, call numbers PZ- Z. To the south of the collection are group study rooms and gendered restrooms. Down the hall from the group study rooms to the east are gender-neutral restrooms and the University Libraries Dean's Office (room 513).
The Fifth Floor of the Knowledge Center includes stairs that lead up from the Second Floor Atrium on the east end of the floor, near the PZ-Z General Collection. There is a space in the center of the floor that is open to the Atrium below. Elevators leading to the upper and lower floors of the library are near the southeast end of the floor.
