Short Stories About Nevada Mining

Virtual Exhibit Tours

Although we’re not currently able to host in-person group events, we will be sharing portions of the exhibit virtually until we are able to gather in person. The event is free but registration is required.

American Flats

American Flats Talk & Tour

During this Talk and Tour we explored the fascinating history of American Flats. Participants learned about the mining claim called The American, first worked in 1859, that became the basis of The American Flat District. Historian and curator Edan Strekal took us through the history and shared how this iconic complex, nestled in the hills below Virginia City, became a cultural icon before its destruction in late 2014.

A recording of this event will be available at a later date.

Carrie Dann

Western Shoshone Defense Project

Much of the material is derived from the Western Shoshone Defense Project's (WSDP) nineteen years as a non-profit, grassroots Western Shoshone organization advocating land and treaty rights. The material also represents Carrie Dann’s involvement in Indian politics with associated traditional Western Shoshone councils and organizations.
