Working in the Libraries

What has been your favorite thing about working in the Libraries?: Growing up, I loved visiting the library, and always thought it would be exciting to work in one and get to read all day. While I didn't exactly get to just do that at the UNR libraries, I still loved being able to fulfill that dream. My favorite part was every part! Working as a peer research consultant let me engage with so many people with lots of unique and interesting research questions, and I always had a lot of fun talking to the librarians and other staff when things were slow. Even the more tedious tasks (like clearing a storage closet of invoices so old they were printed on a dot-matrix printer) were made fun because of the amazing people who work there. My supervisors were wonderful, and I'm very thankful I got to work with and get to know them. Beyond that, I liked getting exposed to all of the great resources the library has and being able to pass along those tips and tricks. And of course I loved being able to just walk upstairs and grab a book!

Can you tell us about a favorite memory or job-related achievement from your time working here?: Last summer, I helped overhaul the “Quick How-To” section of the library website. I'm particularly proud of this because of how helpful of a resource I think it is! I love introducing people to library features that can help make their lives, research projects, and homework assignments easier, even just by a bit, so being able to help enhance these resources was very exciting.

What’s next for you?: When I graduate, I will be starting full-time work as an analyst/survey researcher, and am looking forward to exploring something new. But, sometime in the future, I think it could be exciting to pursue a Master's in Library Science (or in a psychology-related field) and work in an academic library again. I am very thankful for all of the opportunities the UNR libraries gave me, and I anticipate missing it quite a bit.

From Kathy, Corinne’s supervisor: Corinne embodies everything good about a student worker AND a person! She is bright, cheerful, hard working, and takes great pride in the work she does helping her peers with their research. She is also a JOY to be around. If I could clone Corinne, I would!

It's hard to just pick one job-related achievement but here goes. Every semester, I hold a training for the PRCs. I ask each PRC to teach a lesson to their fellow PRCs. Corinne is so good at designing lessons that engage everyone. Not only do we understand the concept but we have fun along the way. Corinne is a natural-born teacher!
