Working in the Libraries
What has been your favorite thing about working in the Libraries?: Working with my peers in a calm and innovative environment.
Can you tell us about a favorite memory or job-related achievement from your time working here?: There have been several projects I have been working on, such as auditing our inventory in MARS and managing the hotspots we have; each of which I have enjoyed performing immensely, but the appreciation I garnered from Daniel recognizing my efforts has been wonderful. Any time Luka has come in and talked with us, getting to know us or working on projects with him, has been an absolute joy, cementing just how great of a boss he is. Working with Michael has also been wonderful, being able to learn more about and work with my passion for VR with a fellow enthusiast has been an incredible experience. There are too many special memories and achievements to count, and I am forever grateful for the opportunities and experiences I've gained from my time here.
What’s next for you?: I've been trying to go to Japan for a few years now, first for study abroad, and now to teach English. I was unable to study abroad unfortunately, and I have not heard from Japan to see if I will be going over as an English teacher, but if I am, I will be spending a couple years over there. In terms of my career, I am looking into the field of Data Science, or employment in the government, such as the NSA or FBI. I'm unsure where I will be in the near, and not so near, future, but I will find enjoyment in wherever I find myself I'm sure.
From Luka, Mason’s supervisor: Mason is a very fast learner. He can be taught something one time and retain it forever. He is also eager to take on technical challenges such as repairing items, troubleshooting computer-related tasks, and advanced spreadsheet development. He's super dependable. I am super grateful for every single student worker. They step up. They take on difficult situations. They learn how to problem solve and be self-sufficient, but they also develop incredible communication skills that always leave me in a place of mental ease knowing that the Digital Media Checkout is staffed by students I can trust and respect.
Mason’s chosen book from the Libraries’ collection:
The Wounded World: W. E. B. Du Bois and the First World War by Chad Williams
