Working in the Libraries
What has been your favorite thing about working in the Libraries?: The easy camaraderie the staff all have with each other.
Can you tell us about a favorite memory or job-related achievement from your time working here?: Shortly after I was hired I was put in charge of inventorying the loose equipment in the Mars room and keeping inventory of everything in repairs. This was a multi semester project but very interesting because I got to see the niche, unique, and older equipment we carry but don’t often check out. Another time, I remember when a coworker and I were asked to help with testing a new Library exhibition, a timeline of the University, that worked by tracking the watchers eyes.
What’s next for you?: In the long term I’m aiming to work on my career and work on the casual application of augmented reality in various spaces. For now however, I’m looking to expand my repertoire and want to try for different opportunities across multiple fields.
From Luka, Luc's supervisor: Every day you say, "What's up, Luc?" and he never hesitates to say, "The sky."
Luc was originally hired to fix items and devices that could be fixed. Due to staffing shortages, he was also trained to work at the checkout desk. Whenever there's downtime, he still makes his way to the back to tinker with devices that can be fixed. He's responsible for getting many items back into circulation.
Luc’s selected book from the Libraries’ collection:
Machine learning in multimedia: unlocking the power of visual and auditory intelligence
Edited by Suman Kumar Swarnkar, Annu Sharma, J. Somasekar, and Bharat Bhushan.
