Working in the Libraries
What has been your favorite part of working in the Libraries?: I love helping patrons realize all the resources they have covered by their tuition. Whenever they ask how much it costs to rent a camera and I say free (unless they damage it or turn it in late), their faces always light up.
Can you give us one (or more) example of an achievement or special memory from your time working for us?: During my first year working at the @One, I was nominated for the student worker of the year award. I didn't win, but it meant so much to me that my hard work was being recognized by my supervisor.
What is next for you? Short-term or long-term plans: I will continue to work my second job at Nevada Humane Society in the HR department, and will hopefully pick up substitute teaching on my days off from that. In the long-term, I would love to either move up the ranks in the non-profit industry or own my own business.
Supervisor Responses from Nicole Allen:
What has been your favorite part of working with Fern?: What I appreciated most about working with Fern is their incredible initiative and their dedication to making the @One the best it could be; they consistently went above and beyond, taking on extra projects and responsibilities that helped keep our operations running smoothly, and their friendly, approachable presence made them someone I could always count on.
What is one job-related achievement or memory of Fern?: Fern is one of our lead workers and is currently in charge of preparing daily deposits so that they can be submitted to the cashier's office. They also created many documents that we still use today, such as employee training guides and various customer facing signage on the floor—earning them a nomination for Student Worker of the Year in Spring 2025.
