Working in the Libraries
What has been your favorite thing about working in the Libraries?: I love the staff and, more specifically, the community that my supervisors have fostered at the @One. I believe that people work most efficiently when they have a strong support system, and my supervisors—especially Nicole Allen—have provided exactly that. Thanks to this incredible community, I’ve had the opportunity to meet some truly amazing people and form lasting friendships.
Can you tell us about a favorite memory or job-related achievement from your time working here?: I will always remember the preparations for the sesquicentennial celebration happening behind our Production desk and how beautifully everything came together once the festivities began throughout the KC.
What’s next for you?: Take a few weeks off to travel with family and friends post graduation and then return to Reno to continue preparing for medical school applications.
From Nicole, Dea's supervisor: Dea has this incredible way of lifting up everyone around her. Her smile is contagious, and her genuine care makes each person feel welcomed and appreciated. She has this special ability to bring out the best in others, simply by being her authentic self.
During my pregnancy, Dea organized a ‘betting pool’ with the other workers to guess whether the baby would be a boy or girl. It was such a fun way to involve everyone, and the excitement was contagious! She later helped me set up dyed cupcakes to announce the highly-anticipated results, and after the big reveal she gave a heartfelt congratulations speech that moved me to tears. It’s a memory I still think about often, and one I’ll cherish forever.
