Working in the Libraries
What has been your favorite part of working in the Libraries?: My favorite moment has got to be seeing all the different kinds of students when they come into the DLM to work on their projects. I’ve met some wonderful, creative people, and I’ve become friends with students who are majoring in engineering, business, art, journalism - even geology and physics.
Can you give us one (or more) example of an achievement or special memory from your time working for us?: My favorite memory will always be creating holiday ornaments, then seeing all the faculty and students pick them up with such joyous faces. Even though the work was hard, I had my friends and coworkers to get through it. To see our work accepted by the others on campus made me realize the payoff was worth all the effort.
What is next for you? Short-term or long-term plans: I plan to start a game development business with some friends. We’re planning to have our first game be a re-design of our capstone project, since we haven’t been able to include all of what we originally wanted before the semester ends.
I also have a minor in journalism, and currently have interviews lined up for tech writing positions on the east coast, as well as in the mid-west. I’m hoping to become a journalist through these opportunities - fingers crossed!
Supervisor responses from Nick Grainger:
What has been your favorite part of working with Sam?: My favorite part of working with Sam is that he is always willing to help out; he brings his upbeat attitude and witty sense of humor to the space.
What is one job-related achievement or memory of Sam?: In his time here, Sam has proven to be a valuable employee, earning him a promotion to our PIC role. We trust him with the responsibility of keeping the library open while there are no full-time employees on site.
