Working in the Libraries
What has been your favorite part of working in the Libraries?: The welcoming atmosphere of where I worked was definitely a highlight. I am so grateful for all the incredibly smart and kind people I worked with over my entire time here.
Can you give us one (or more) example of an achievement or special memory from your time working for us?: I learned a ton of UNR history while going through the Artemisia yearbooks for a work project that I would never have known about otherwise. I now feel like an unofficial tour guide with the amount of things I know about the buildings on campus. One of the most interesting things I learned about was the mass yearbook burnings of the '70s. It's a good thing our library kept even those yearbooks to preserve the history.
What is next for you? Short-term or long-term plans: Post graduation, I plan on continuing my job as a private violin teacher, along with developing my art practice and building a business around that.
Supervisor Responses from Shelly Johnson:
What has been your favorite part of working with Tessa?: Tessa works quickly and efficiently, exhibiting a great work ethic. Over her three years with us, she has completed a vast amount of work, from everyday labeling to many metadata projects that enhanced findability and usability of our library materials. She has always been willing to shift priorities and do whatever task was needed. Her reliability and her kind presence in the workroom will be greatly missed!
What is one job-related achievement or memory of Tessa?: Tessa completed the bulk of the metadata work on the Artemisia yearbooks that we put online. For each volume, she pored through each page to make sure the names of people, campus buildings, and campus organizations would be accurate and searchable. This meticulous work will provide a lasting benefit to researchers and will form a large part of Tessa's legacy of her time in the Libraries.
