First Floor

Knowledge Center Floor 1

Getting to the first floor of the Knowledge Center

The first floor of the Knowledge Center includes an outside entrance facing west that leads to the Outdoor Sculpute Garden and the Whalen Parking Garage. Stairs are also located on the west side of the floor which will lead to the second floor, and on the northwest corner of the floor, which will also lead to the second floor or the Basque Library. Public elevators are located on the northeast corner of the floor, and on the southeast corner.

Features of the First Floor

The first floor includes the Nevada Writer's Hall of Fame near the west entrance, which leads to the Reception and Art Gallery outside of the Wells Fargo Auditorium. There are gendered restrooms and also a gender neutral/family restroom outside of the Reception and Art Gallery.

Walk through the foyer to find vending and lockers, and Studio Classroom 104 and 107.

The @One studio with computers for UNR users is through the foyer to the east. There is a services desk and the @Reality lab on your right, and the Dynamic Media Lab, recording and editing rooms, a video conference room, emergency stairs, and a gendered restroom on your left.

Through the @One to the east is the Multimedia Lab, the Digital Media Checkout room, and Computer Instruction Lab room 114. Down the hall to your right is the Data Works Lab and emergency staris.


Second Floor

Getting to the second floor of the Knowledge Center

The second floor of the Knowledge Center includes an outside Main Entrance facing west that leads to the Whalen Parking Garage, a North Entrance that leads to the Joe Crowley Student Union, and a South Entrance that has stairs to the first floor. There is an elevator and a set of stairs in the northwest corner that leads to the first floor or the Basque Library, a set of stairs on either side of the main entrance that lead to the first floor, and a bank of elevators in the southeast corner that lead to the upper floors of the Knowledge Center.

Features of the Second Floor

The second floor includes the Rotunda near the west entrance, an information desk, and a Main Lobby with stairs to the first floor. Bytes Cafe is near the north entrance of the Main Lobby, and the Knowledge Nook (room 221), is near the South Entrance.

East through the main lobby is the Atrium, with computing help and popular reading on the south side of the floor, and the reference collection and group study rooms on the north side. Library and Research Services is directly to the east, with stairs to the upper floors of the Knowledge Center to the north.

East past Library and Research Services are gendered restrooms and the Microform Collection, with access to the Mathewson Automated Retrieval System or MARS (for staff only), a print/copy alcove and emergency stairs.

West past Library and Research Services are gendered restrooms and a print/copy alcove, emergency stairs, and down the hall to the east is the Research Services department.


Third Floor

Getting to the Third Floor of the Knowledge Center - Main Library

The third floor of the Knowledge Center Main Library includes stairs that lead up from the first floor atrium on the east end of the floor, near the Special Collections and University Archives department. There is a space in the center of the floor that is open to the atrium below. Elevators leading to the upper and lower floors of the library are near the southeast end of the floor.

Features of the Third Floor Main Library

The third floor includes the General Collection A through E182 to the south, with a study nook, print/copy alcove, and emergency alert button. A Tower Quiet Study area is on the southeast corner of the floor, near another print/copy station and emergency alert button. Two sets of emergency stairs are on the far south side of the floor.

To the north is a large study area with a print/copy alcove and two emergency alert buttons.

On the east side of the floor, directly east of the stairs, is the Exhibit and Reading Room and Special Collections and University Archives department. There is access to the Mathewson Automated Retrieval System, or MARS, for staff only. Down the hall to the north are gendered restrooms and emergency stairs. To the south are group study rooms, gendered restrooms, and emergency stairs.

Getting to the Third Floor of the Knowledge Center - Basque Library and Center for Basque Studies

The third floor - Basque Library and Center for Basque Studies - includes stairs and an elevator that lead up from the main lobby on the north side of the Knowledge Center. The Basque Library is only accessible via the north entrance stairs or elevator.

Features of the Third Floor - Basque Library and Center for Basque Studies

The third floor - Basque Library and Center for Basque Studies - includes a conference room directly to the east past the entrance. A hallway past the conference room leads to the Basque Library and Center for Basque Studies to the northeast, with gendered restrooms in the southeast corner of the Center for Basque Studies.


Fourth Floor

The Fourth floor of the Knowledge Center Main Library includes stairs that lead up from the first floor atrium on the east end of the floor, near the M-NA General Collection. There is a space in the center of the floor that is open to the atrium below. Elevators leading to the upper and lower floors of the library are near the southeast end of the floor.

Features of the Fourth Floor Main Library

The fourth floor includes the General Collection E183 through HM to the south, with a study nook, print/copy alcove, and emergency alert button. A Tower Quiet Study area is on the southeast corner of the floor, near another print/copy station and emergency alert button. Two sets of emergency stairs are on the far south side of the floor.

To the west facing the Brian Whalen Parking Garage are the Tower Quiet Study area on the southwest corner, the Alan Bible Conference Room 402, the Keyser Conference Room 404, and the Rotunda Quiet Study on the northwest corner.

On the north side of the floor is the General Collection HN through LT, two print/copy alcoves, and two sets of emergency stairs.

On the east side of the floor after exiting the main stairs directly to the east is the General Collection, M-NA. To the north of the collection is a gendered restroom, and directly to the east is the Technical Services Department, Teaching and Learning Technologies and Instructional Design (room 411) and the Instructional Design Lab (Room 414). To the south of the collection are group study rooms and gendered restrooms. Down the hall from the group study rooms to the east are the Leonard Graduate Lounge (room 422), and the Faculty and Graduate Studies area (room 421).


Fifth Floor

Getting to the Fifth Floor of the Knowledge Center

The fifth floor of the Knowledge Center includes stairs that lead up from the first floor atrium on the east end of the floor, near the PZ-Z General Collection. There is a space in the center of the floor that is open to the atrium below. Elevators leading to the upper and lower floors of the library are near the southeast end of the floor.

Features of the Fifth Floor

The Fifth floor includes the General Collection NB through NX to the south, with the Government Collection, print/copy alcove, and emergency alert button. A Tower Reading Room is on the southeast corner of the floor, near another print/copy station and emergency alert button. Two sets of emergency stairs are on the far south side of the floor.

To the west facing the Brian Whalen Parking Garage are the Tower Reading Room on the southwest corner, and the General Collection NX through PR.

On the north side of the floor is the General Collection PR through PT, two print/copy alcoves with emergency alert buttons, and two sets of emergency stairs.

On the east side of the floor after exiting the main stairs directly to the east is the General Collection, PZ through Z. To the south of the collection are group study rooms and gendered restrooms. Down the hall from the group study rooms to the east are the Administration offices including the Chief Information Officer and Dean of University libraries (room 513).
