About the department
Part of Distinctive Collections, The University of Nevada, Reno Special Collections and University Archives is home to a variety of special materials including university history, rare books, book arts, manuscripts, photographs, and maps.
We can help you use the materials for your own use, research, or publication. We also welcome classes and the opportunity to help instructors craft assignments or experiences using the department and its resources. We appreciate our community partners and individuals who donate to add to our archival collections.

Our history
The Special Collections and University Archives department was established as Special Collections in 1961 and University Archives in 1964. Today it serves as the repository of the University’s memories and as a home for valuable, rare, and unique historical research materials.
Whether you want to track the development of a University department, need a photograph of Lake Tahoe from the 19th century, want to know the inner workings of the U.S. Congress in the twentieth century, or want to examine an 18th century book, we may have resources that can help.
