Field Notebook

Wheeler Survey Field Notebooks

The forty-two notebooks in this collection date from 1869 to 1878. All but four were produced during the "Wheeler Survey" in Nevada from 1871 to 1878. They contain a great deal of raw meteorological and geographic data collected by the expedition during its long trek through the West.

James Edward Church Papers

This collection contains the papers, notebooks, and photographs of James Edward Church, who was a professor of Classics at the University of Nevada, Reno, and the man known as the "father of snow science." The collection includes field notebooks containing measurements from Church's pioneering snow surveys.

Wild Horse and Burro Collection

The Wild Horse and Burro Collection contains scanned reports, correspondence, and other publications covering the work of the Nevada Wild Horse Commission. Among the 88,000 pages of content in the collection are numerous scientific reports related to horse management and ecology in Nevada and California.

Mighels Correspondence

Letters between Nellie Verrill and Henry (Harry) Mighels, who conducted a lengthy courtship by mail in the 1860's. Community volunteers transcribed the digitized correspondence. These transcripts are available alongside the original scans in the repository.

Senator Dean Heller Collection

The collection contains press releases from Senator Heller's legislative career. Key topics among the press releases include veterans' affairs, tax reform, public lands, and infrastructure projects. The collection also includes over one hundred press releases related to the Yucca Mountain project. Text harvested from the collection is available as part of our Data to Go program.

The collection contains transcripts, audio files (.mp3 and .wav formats), digital photographs of interviewees related to the Fourth Street-Prater Way Oral History Project. TMRPA Oral History Project

The Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency collection contains the original audio interviews, in MP3 and WAVE formats, recorded by Alicia Barber during the course of the project and the transcribed, chronicler-approved oral history volume, in PDF and Microsoft Word formats, produced from the audio. Teams in the Libraries used machine learning to generate transcripts which students then edited for accuracy. The transcripts are available as part of our Data to Go program.

Stewart Indian School Oral History Project

Conducted from December 2016-June 2017, the oral histories in this collection document the experiences of 15 individuals who either went to school or worked at the Stewart Indian School. The interviews were conducted by Terri McBride. Teams in the Libraries used machine learning to generate transcripts which students then edited for accuracy.
