The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries endeavors to provide assistance and instruction which lead users to independent study and research. The Libraries is committed to equal access as articulated in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Patrons with disability-related needs are encouraged to request accommodations.

The Libraries provides a positive environment in which an individual's needs can be accommodated and privacy respected. We strive to supply access to all, onsite or online.

Procedures for getting assistance

Getting assistance onsite

Library team members are ready to provide assistance to users, upon request.

Users may ask for assistance at any services desk for:

  • Assistance in accessing other areas of the building
  • Book paging (retrieval) upon request
  • Assistance with copiers, printers, scanners, Wolfcard machines and more, as staffing allows

  • The Disabled Accessibility Map is also also available at the public service desks in the DLM

Ramps, elevators or lifts provide access to the Knowledge Center and branch libraries. Specific directions for disabled access may be obtained by calling the library branch needed or by referring to a Disabled Accessibility Map, available at public service desks in the Knowledge Center.

Online access and e-resources

Our online access team is ready to provide reasonable accommodations and timely access to digital materials for users with disabilities. Assistance can involve:

  • E-resources from third-party vendors
  • Unique digital materials available through the Libraries online repository

Assistive technology

We make several forms of assistive technology available in the Libraries.

  • A document magnifier is available on the second floor of the Knowledge Center in the microform area.
  • Screenreader software is installed on a group of computers in the @One media center

Captioning oral histories

During 2021, a team of staff and student workers from Digital Services and Distinctive Collections completed a project to create, edit and present captions for the dozens of interviews available online in the Digital Archive. This process not only increases the accessibility of these recordings, but lays the groundwork to ensure future audio and video recordings receive the same treatment.
