The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries offers several ways to find current and historical news articles. Sometimes there are minor delays with news articles being indexed in library databases, so it’s best to use a web search to find very recent news and up-to-the-minute headlines. However, you may encounter paywalls on many news sites, and you can often avoid these access restrictions by searching for news articles in library collections.
Using Library Search
While it does not always work as well as using a news database, you can find newspaper articles in Library Search. After searching for your topic, click the filter for Newspaper Articles under Resource Type.
Using news databases
You can see all available news databases by clicking on Databases on the library homepage. Select News from the Types drop-down menu at the top to see the complete list.
The majority of databases listed are newspaper aggregators, meaning they contain articles that are reproduced from a variety of sources. For example, the U.S. Newsstream database searches for articles in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, and Reno Gazette-Journal, among others.
Some recommended news databases with current content include:
- Access World News Research Collection
- International Newsstream Collection
- ProQuest Recent Newspapers: U.S. West Newsstream
- U.S. Newsstream Collection
See News Sources for more information on finding historical news sources and Nevada news sources.
