If you are a University of Nevada, Reno student, faculty, or staff member, you can use your University NetID and password to access online library resources from off campus. If you are a community member without a NetID, you can browse the library's online collection of open access materials.
Library Search
Begin your search from the library homepage, and type either some keywords or the name of the resource into the box under “Search the Libraries’ collection.” Then, if you have a NetID, use the “Sign in” button that appears at the top of your search results and log in with your NetID when prompted. Navigate to the listing for the desired resource and click on “Available online.” Then select from among the full text availability options under “Online Access” to be passed through to your resource. If you are having trouble, view our guide on finding the full text of an article for more detailed instructions.
You will only have to log in once per web session. Note that there is some content in Library Search that will only appear if you are logged in. If you do not have a NetID, you can filter for online open access content to view resources that are available for free. Under the “Availability” filter, click on “Available online” and “Open Access,” then select “Apply filters”. Follow the steps above to access the item.
Database search
If you choose to search within a specific library database, navigate to the desired database from the library website and log in with your NetID when prompted. You can then search for online resources. Make sure you access the database through the library website or a proxied link; searching for the name of the database on Google and navigating to it from there usually does not grant access to databases when off-campus.
Google Scholar
You can also customize Google Scholar to show links to University of Nevada, Reno resources. View our guide to Using Google Scholar to learn how.
