OER grant webinar
Potential applicants can learn more about OER and the program by viewing a recording of last year’s informational webinar. You can also learn more at our Affordable and Open Educational Resources guide.
About the grant
The OER grant will fund projects to migrate existing course materials for classes at the University of Nevada, Reno to open educational resources (OER). The amount of funding will be $1,500 per course and the grant is open to all academic faculty. Open educational resources are any material used in the classroom to help students learn that have been made freely available online and licensed for others to reuse and adapt them, often with a Creative Commons License. Examples include textbooks from the OpenStax program.
Individuals, teams, and departments/programs may submit proposals describing a project to:
- Adopt an existing open textbook (or other educational resource)
- Adapt existing open educational resources to their instructional needs
Smaller awards may be awarded for faculty who are already using open educational resources but wish to perform maintenance, revision, further adaptation, or expansion.

For any questions, please contact Teresa Schultz, the current Coordinator for the OER grant.
Library resources, websites, and other non-openly licensed materials are not considered OER.
Adaptation involves identifying existing OER and modifying it to reflect local needs, updated information, or creating ancillary materials to pair with an existing OER that will enhance the learning experience.
Proposals are due by 11:59pm November 18, 2022. Awardees will be announced by late December. Awardees will then take part in 3-4 workshops about OER during the spring semester and cohort meetings throughout the remainder of the program, which ends in August 2023.
