Getting Books from MARS

When you’re searching for a book in OneSearch or the library catalog, you may notice the word MARS in the location information. MARS, which stands for Mathewson Automated Retrieval System, is a robotic system located at the back of the University of Nevada, Reno Knowledge Center that contains certain books and journals that are used less often.

From OneSearch, open the book record in the Library Catalog by clicking on the title or location information. Then click on the Request It button under Location and enter your NetID and password (or your last name and community borrower barcode number). MARS requests will be held for you at the Access Services desk on the main floor of the Knowledge Center. Requested items take approximately 10 minutes to be retrieved, and they will be held for seven days.
