Research instruction

Librarians provide a full range of instructional services, including presenting to classes, creating specialized webpages and tutorials for courses, and assisting with development of information-based assignments. Library instruction sessions can be delivered either in person or online.

Makerspace instruction

Librarians and staff provide a variety of instructional services within the DeLaMare Science & Engineering Library Makerspace, including co-developing maker assignments, presenting technical and competency-based instruction to classes, and creating online learning materials, such as tutorials and WebCampus modules.

  • Contact the DeLaMare Makerspace to schedule a class session or to meet with a makerspace instruction expert.

Materials that support instruction

Videos

The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries provide access to dozens of streaming video databases, with well over 100,000 titles, to support your teaching needs. 

  • When you find a video you want to use for a class in our streaming video collections, you may place a request with Course Reserves.
  • If you cannot find the video you want to use for your class in our streaming video collections, please contact your Subject Librarian, and library staff will work to find a version you can use.

Ebooks and articles

The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries provide access to numerous ebooks and articles for use in your courses.

  • You can search for ebooks through Library Search or by using a research database of your choice.
  • When you find a work you would like to use, you may place a request with Course Reserves or add a “permalink” to the item to your syllabus or WebCampus course.
  • If you cannot find an ebook you want to use for your class in our collections, please contact your Subject Librarian, and we can investigate whether an ebook copy is available for purchase. Please be aware that some database collections change out ebook content from time to time, so it is always good to check with your Subject Librarian ahead of time regarding ebooks that you would like to use in your classes, even if you have used them in the past.

Open educational resources

Open educational resources, also called OERs, are materials used in the classroom that have been made freely available online and licensed for re-use. Your Subject Librarian can answer questions about copyrighted materials, help find open educational resources for classes, answer questions about adapting or creating open resources, and answer questions about materials that the library already has for use. The digital archive also has numerous items that are already licensed for educational and other non-profit use.

Primary sources

Primary sources are original documents and objects that were created by individuals at the time historical events occurred, or in memoirs and oral histories.

Course reserves

Course Reserves allows instructors to make supplemental readings and course materials available to students either in hard copy form available for check out at the library or in electronic form which can be accessed remotely.

  • Submit your reserves scanning and linking requests in the “course reserves” section in your WebCampus Course.

Equipment

The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries provides access to a variety of making and audio/visual resources, including a large lending technology collection, VR studio, and makerspace.
